The exhibition Maneuverable Strategies in Xm2 concluded Vibe Overgaard and Sara Kramer’s collaboration with the Floating Projects artist collective, a group of Hong Kong-based artists managing an art space in Wong Chuk Hang. The project explored the concept of organization: how artists manage their work and time within their societies and the role of artist-run spaces. They began their residency with a role-play workshop to create a fictional context for discussing how artistic practice is situated within its surrounding society.
For the exhibition, they worked with Hong Kong-based dancer Kayi Cheung on a video featuring choreographed performances throughout the city of Hong Kong. These performances highlighted the constraints of space and time in the metropolis, with four squares marked in front of a Wan Chai shopping mall serving as a stage. Cheung’s movements within these squares interacted with the daily lives of passersby, creating a dynamic where her performance was influenced by its surroundings. This interaction provided insights into the function and impact of artist-run spaces.
